Description
This photograph is a reproduction of the painting of President Abraham Lincoln done by Thomas Buchanan Read in 1864. According to the information attached to the photograph, the artist and President Lincoln were by chance guests at the same time at the home of a military officer in Washington, D. C., in 1864. The artist did a small quick study of the President on a wooden panel and presented it to the host the next day. After many years the painting was purchased by C. H. Kunning of Columbus, Ohio, who had the photograph taken of it. The painting shows a head only portrait of President Lincoln facing the viewer.
