This photographic print is a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln taken on November 8, 1863, in Washington, D. C. President Lincoln is shown wearing a black frock coat, waistcoat, and bow tie facing the viewer. The sheet is pasted to the top of the inside page of a green folder with a caption showing just below the portrait. which reads, "This Lincoln portrait was taken by Alexander Gardner in 1864. It was lost sight of for twenty-five years, when it turned up again. It is recognized as one of the very best portraits of the martyred President, although not so well known as some of the several Brady portraits." Printed on the cover of the folder in a printed box is the title, "The 100th Anniversary of Lincoln's Birth takes place on February 12, 1909."
