Description

This lithograph depicts President Abraham Lincoln with his family. The Lincoln family never posed together for a photograph so the lithographer worked from individual photographs to compose the print. Lincoln and Tad did pose together on February 9, 1864, which is the photograph on which this print of Lincoln withTad is based. Mrs. Lincoln is shown seated to the viewer's left with her left arm resting on the table while she holds a handkerchief in her right hand. Robert Lincoln in his Union army uniform is seated to his mother's left with his right arm resting on the table. Tad Lincoln is shown standing next to his father's chair while they look at a book together. A framed landscape hangs on the wall behind the table. The title and publisher's information are printed below the image in the margin. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
