Description

This hand-colored lithograph depicts a monument with a statue of President Abraham Lincoln standing with a rolled document in his right hand while his left hand grips the lapel of his coat. The statue is placed on a rectangular pedestal on which the following text is inscribed: "In memory of Abraham Lincoln. Born February 12th, 1809. Inaugurated president, March 4th, 1861. Issued the Proclamation of Emancipation January 1st, 1863. Reinaugurated president March 4th, 1865. Assassinated April 14th, 1865. Died April 15th, 1865, in the 57th year of his age. The monument is depicted in a wooded, park-type setting with a few visitors examining the monument. A man, woman, and little girl stand gazing at the statue to the viewer's left. A young man and girl stand gazing at the statue to the viewer's right The title is printed below the image in the lower margin. This print commemorates the actual bronze statue sculpted by George E.
