Description
This print features a detail of Douglas Volk's painting of President Abraham Lincoln. (See 71.2009.081.1199 for the full image.) President Lincoln is shown wearing a black coat and bow tie facing slightly toward the viewer's right and with his head angled slightly downward. In the lower margin are sketches of the life mask and cast of Lincoln's right hand which were taken by Douglas's father, Leonard W. Volk, in 1860 and used by Douglas in painting the Lincoln portraits. To the right of the sketches is a printed Douglas Volk signature with the copyright symbol.
