Description
This is an original drawing of a political cartoon published in the Dayton, Ohio, Journal-Herald on February 12, 1968. The cartoon depicts President Abraham Lincoln holding a miniature version of the Capitol Building in his hands. The building is depicted splitting directly down the middle. Above the building are a dove and an eagle who appear to be fighting and squawking at one another. The dove represents those legislators voting against the Vietnam War. The eagle represents those legislators voting to go to war. The year of production, 1968, is handwritten in blue pencil in the bottom right corner. The title also handwritten in blue pencil appears in the top margin with a crossed out version above it. The artist signed the cartoon with his name and the year in which it was made in the folds of Lincoln's sleeve. "544" is handwritten in pencil in the top right corner of the margin.
