Description
This is a cartoon printed on photographic paper. It represents a humorous modern-day representation of the Gettysburg Address. Lincoln stands in his typical dress, with his black suit and tie and top hat, on top of a makeshift stage in front of a pickup truck with an amplifier in its bed. Lincoln bends over the microphone and addresses the modern-day crowd, struggling with the technology of the microphone. Lincoln: "Fourscore and--" (Microphone): "WHEEE-OOOOT!" Lincoln: "Excuse me. . . Fourscore and seven--Hey! Can you folks in the back hear me? Good. . . Fourscore and seven years ago--Hey! Is this thing on? Oh. O.K. Here we go. . . Fourscore. . ." The title and explanation appears below, "Lincoln at Gettysburg (A Modern Reenactment)." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
