Description

a) The color print inside the envelope features President Abraham Lincoln standing while holding a rope that is attached to a very large American flag. His left arm is extended up in to the air. Lincoln is depicted wearing a black coat, pants, and vest with a white collared shirt, and black bow tie. The chain of a pocket watch is visible. Lincoln's coat and top hat sit on a chair behind him. He stands on a stage with people standing behind him as well as in the audience below. b) Brown paper envelope with "No. 35 The Pageant of a Nation by J. L. G. Ferris Master Painter of Scenes from American History" printed at the top of folder. "Lincoln at Independence Hall 1861 Historical Application David S. Muzzey, PH. D. Graduate Professor of American History, Columbia University" is printed just below that. The text in the center is a description of Lincoln's presidential campaign tour. Information about the work is presented with various questions for younger and older pupils. The reverse side of the folder is a "Character Application" section that describes the image with an emphasis on the American flag pictured. The bottom gives a list with "Some Suggestions For Special Uses of This Picture." Note: above measurements reflect those of the print.
