Description
This pen and ink illustration featuring President Abraham Lincoln and his son, Tad, was done from a photograph taken of them on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C. and is one of several illustrations done by C. M. Biggers for the book "The Lincoln Album : Life of the Preserver of the Union, the Liberator of a People, and the First American," published in 1907 by Hawkins Publishing Company, St. Louis, Missouri. Here President Lincoln is shown sitting in a chair facing to the viewer's right. His son is standing behind the left arm of the chair. The two are looking at a book Lincoln is holding on his lap. The piece is signed in the bottom left corner of the image "C.M. Biggers". On the back in pencil is written "M39" and written very large in pencil is the number "30". Stamped in purple ink along the top edge of the back is "Chas. J Ross Co 1 1/2." The entire book pdf can be viewed online at https://ia802905.us.archive.org. This illustration appears on page 61 in the book. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
