Description

This color print features a head and shoulders etching of President Abraham Lincoln on the viewer's left half of the sheet. To the viewer's right of the portrait is a quotation from Abraham Lincoln printed in the Korean language with a facsimile of Lincoln's signature at the end. Several inches below the signature the quotation is printed in English: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master. This expresses my idea of democracy. Whatever differs from this, to the extent of the difference, is no democracy." Stapled below the portrait are the 1959 calendar pages. The calendar commemorated the sesquicentennial anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth in 1959. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
