Description
This drawing is a political cartoon depicting a car at a gas station where apparently there is no gasoline left. The man in the car has a disappointed look on his face as he attempts to purchase gasoline from an attendant. The attendant, who is only visible from the back, has the gas pump in one hand and holds both hands up in an effort to show his lack of control over the situation. There is a sign propped up next to the pump that reads "Out Of Gas". A cloud-like shape hangs above the gas station inside of which President Abraham Lincoln is seen. He has his back to the viewer and is partially leaning over with his left hand touching his beard while looking over his left shoulder. The title handwritten in blue pencil above his head reads "You can fuel some of the people some of the time..." which is a play on the word "fool" which is in the original quotation that is mistakenly attributed to Lincoln. Below the scene "--With apologies to A. Lincoln" is handwritten in black ink just above the artist's signature and date.
