Description
This colorful illuminated print features the last sentence of President Abraham Lincoln's March 4, 1865, Second Inaugural Address. A color head-only portrait is at the beginning of the text. At the end of the text below Lincoln's name is an angel holding an olive branch with a banner flowing over her knees with the words "and to all good people everywhere" and on a banner below continues "Peace on earth to men of good will." To the viewer's right of the angel are soldiers from the four branches of the military with a young mother and her two children in the background. Various flags, patriotic symbols, and decorative icons form a border around the text. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
