Description
This lithograph depicts a portrait of William H. Seward pictured from the shoulders up. He is turned slightly to the viewer's left. His hair is longer on the top, slightly wavy, and parted to the side. He appears middle-aged with heavy eyebrows and creases next to the eyes. He wears a black suit with white shirt, vest, and black bow tie. The print is from a drawing based on a daguerreotype originally done by Vannerson, as indicated on the bottom left. The signature in the printing plate to the left of Seward's shoulder is illegible. The print is inscribed with his signature at the bottom center, "William H. Seward, U.S. Senator from N.Y." Seward autographed this piece himself in ink at the very bottom of the paper. The inscription reads, "Mrs(?) Himman with the sincere respects of her friend, William H. Seward."
