Description

This is a reprint of a newspaper article from the February 11, 1923, issue of the Illinois State Register. The article was written by Henry B. Rankin in response to an article published in the Daily Californian of Berkley, California. That article featured the opinion of John Cowper Powys, an actor who had portrayed President Abraham Lincoln on film. Powys made several negative statements about the character and intellectual abilities of President Lincoln based on incorrect assumptions. In his article Rankin provided comments and vindication using anecdotes and quotations from Lincoln's speeches and writings. This item is different from 71.2009.081.2360 because it is printed on coated paper and a photograph of the author has been added to the article.
