Description

This hand-colored cartoon depicts a scene at a slaughter house. Animals with politicians' faces are strung up, ready to be slaughtered by Uncle Sam on the far left and Daniel Webster in the center. Andrew Jackson charges in the door to the far right to save everyone. The animals depicted are: Van Buren, Tyler, Bobby, Clay, Polk, and Benton. Uncle Sam: "This meat will keep without salt, it is so saturated with Salt River water!" Webster: "This is the same sledge hammer with which I knocked down Calhoun and Nullification." Jackson: "By the Eternal! I'll come in there to you. Take your Dog (Clay) out of the way!" The print is titled along the bottom margin, "Uncle Sam's Slaughter House."
