Description

This lithograph features an illustration of the Main Exhibition Building in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, built for the celebration of the centennial anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States. Above the Exhibition Building are vignettes of various events and battles: Drafting the Declaration of Independence--the Committee; Reading the Declaration of Independence, Battle of Lake Erie, Celebration of the 4th of July after the war; Battle at Monmouth; and Entry into Mexico. Below the Main Exhibition Building illustration are five more vignettes: Fort Sumter; Independence Hall or State House, Philadelphia; Surrender of Lee; The Memorial Building or "Art Gallery," Philadelphia; and Entry into Richmond.
