Description
This political cartoon by Currier & Ives depicts Jefferson Davis, President Abraham Lincoln, George McClellan and an unnamed African-American soldier. By dividing the page in half and, through vignettes, the cartoon contrasts the greatly differing viewpoints of McClellan and Lincoln on how the South would be treated at the end of the Civil War, showing these viewpoints in action. The left half shows McClellan's plan in which the African-American soldier is given back to the South to be a slave again. The right half shows Lincoln's plan in which slavery would not continue and the South would peaceably come back under the government of the Union.
