Description
This lithograph features the finished tomb built to hold the remains of President Abraham Lincoln and his family. The 120 feet tall monument includes a tower in front of which is a bronze statue of Abraham Lincoln standing with a pen in his right hand and his left hand resting on an unrolled document. Four round pedestals each with a bronze statue of a wartime episode are placed at the corners of the tower. Two long stairways lead from ground level at each side of the base to the doorway in the tower. Trees surround the monument with a few gravestones visible in the background. Several men, women, and children are shown on the surrounding lawn and taking the stairs up to the base of the tower. Just below the image in the lower margin is the publisher's information. Just below that is the title, "National Lincoln Monument. Oak Ridge Cemetery, Springfield, Ill's. To the left of the title is a brief synopsis of the life of Abraham Lincoln. To the right of the title are achitectural facts about the monument. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
