Description

This photograph features the Lincoln tomb in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois, where President Abraham Lincoln and his family are buried. Above the tomb on a rectangular base is a 117-foot obelisk in front of which is a full-length, heroic-sized bronze statue of President Lincoln. Positioned at the corners are 4 bronze statues representing the infantry, navy, artillery, and cavalry of the Civil War period. Shields representing each of the states in the Union are placed below the statues. Two flights of balustrated stairs lead to the front entrance of the tomb. The photograph is placed within a double-line, gold-colored, rectangular border. The title is printed in gold-colored ink in the lower margin. To the viewer's right of the title also printed in gold-colored ink are the names of the designer, Larkin G Mead, Jr., and the builder, W. O. Richardson, and the statistical information for the monument. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
