Description
This poster features a reproduction of a photograph of President Abraham Lincoln with his youngest son, Tad, taken on February 9, 1864, in Washington, D. C., as well as a photograph of Tad taken when he was eleven years old and wearing a Navy uniform. A quotation from President Lincoln accompanying the first photograph reads, "It is my pleasure that my children are free, happy and unrestrained by parental tyranny. Love is the chain whereby to bind a child to its parents." Beside Tad's photograph is a reproduction of a note written by President Lincoln to Captain Dahlgren, "Capt. Dahlgren, pray let "Tad" have a little gun that he cannot hurt himself with. Oct. 14, 1862, A. Lincoln" This poster accompanied an exhibit about Lincoln and his family at the State of Illinois Center in Chicago, Illinois. A retangular double line border frames the poster.
