Description

This steel engraving was done from a photograph taken of President Abraham Lincoln in 1862 in Washington, D. C. Shown deep in thought, President Lincoln is seated in a chair turned toward the viewer's left with his head angled slightly downward. His left elbow rests on the arm of the chair with his hand held up near his face. He is wearing a black frock coat and bow tie. A table is to Lincoln's right on which an inkwell, a book, and a top hat have been placed. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
