Description
This lithograph done from a drawing by Ad. Biegermann, depicts the family of President Abraham Lincoln in a parlor setting. Since the Lincoln family never posed together for any artist or photographer, many artists used photographs of the individuals to compose a family scene for printing after Lincoln's death. In this print Mrs. Lincoln is seated to the viewer's left with Willie leaning against the table beside her. A younger boy, apparently supposed to represent Tad, is seated on an ottoman on his mother's right side drawing on a board. Robert, the oldest son, stands behind the table wearing his soldier's uniform. President Lincoln is seated to the viewer's right holding a book in his lap. Three other books are on the table along with a document with the words Proclamation of Freedom on it. A bust, possibly of George Washington, sits on a pedestal to the president's left.
