Description
This portrait of President Abraham Lincoln depicts him facing the viewer's right. He is shown later in life with a receding hairline and full beard. He is wearing a black suit with black vest, white collared shirt and black bow tie. The background is a wash of greens and browns. The artist signed his name in red along Lincoln's left shoulder, "Bowser, 1866." The portrait's format is ovular with an ovular gold-colored frame. This painting was executed from a photograph. This painting of Lincoln by African American artist David Bustille Bowser was commissioned by financier Jay Cooke in 1866.
