Description
This engraving done from a painting by John H. Littlefield features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln. He is shown wearing a black suit, vest , and bow tie and a white shirt facing the viewer's right. An oval of leaves encircles the portrait. "Lincoln" is printed below in the spandrel. Even though Littlefield had worked as a student in Lincoln's Springfield law office, he based his portrait on a photograph taken of Lincoln on February 9, 1864, rather than painting him from life.
