Description
This photographic print depicts a beardless Lincoln in profile, facing toward the viewer's right. Lincoln wears a black coat, vest, and bow tie. The original photograph was taken of Abraham Lincoln by Alexander Hesler on June 3, 1860, not long after Lincoln had received the Republican Party nomination as their presidential candidate. The publisher's name and the date are printed at the top of the piece. The following quote from Lincoln's Gettysburg Address is written below: "That these dead shall not have died in vain. And that government of the people by the people for the people shall not perish from the earth." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
