Description

This print commemorates the centennial anniversary of George Washington entering New York City to be inaugurated as the first president of the United States on April 30, 1789. Washington is depicted riding on a white horse with the American flag visible behind him. A crowd of people line both sides of the street with some ladies and children watching from a balcony. Head and shoulders presidential portraits in oval borders from Washington to Grover Cleveland border the print on three sides. The title is printed in the bottom margin preceded by "1789 Washington Centennial Souvenir 1889." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
