Description

This hand-colored lithograph is an advertisement for an exhibition of paintings of Civil War scenes at the Institute Hall, Wilmington, Delaware, March 29 through April 2, 1864. Tickets were 25 cents for adults, children's tickets were 10 cents. "Goodwin & Woodward's Polyrama, the War!...Every scene sketched upon the spot and painted with scrupulous fidelity by a Corps of Celebrated Artists of New York City, Commenced at the First Breaking Out of Hostilities!...showing all the prominent battles, naval engagements, fortifications, &c....scenes of sad and mournful interest...thus following in regular order, all the events of the Great Campaign, from the Great Conflict up to the Last Battle Reported." The block of text is surrounded by illustrations taken from the paintings with the burning of Fort Sumter across the top and the battle of the Monitor and Merrimac at the end.
