Description

This steel engraving features Union General Ulysses S. Grant standing with his right arm resting on the saddle of a white horse. He is depicted in his military uniform standing beside the back of a small canon to the viewer's right in the image. A pyramid of canon balls is depicted in the lower left corner of the image. The heads and shoulders of a few soldiers are faintly visible in the background. The title, "Lieut. General U.S. Grant," is printed in the bottom margin.
