Description
This cartoon was clipped from the French publication, "Le Charivari," page 341. It features a political cartoon where a Native American sits on the ground, surrounded by miniature doll-like soldier figures and an American flag. A sign is erected behind him, reading "Ameriques." He looks towards a heavy-set, white gentleman, dressed formally, who looks upon the situation through his monocle. The dialogue printed below reads: - Eh bien! Arrivez-vous a les reaccommoder. - L'Amerique - Ils sont un peu demolis, mais les morceaux en sont bons. Translation: - Ah good! You've arrived to mend them. - America - They are a bit broken, but the pieces are good. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
