Description
This black and white photograph taken after a snowfall features the statue of Abraham Lincoln located on the front plaza of The Lincoln National Life Insurance Company, Fort Wayne, Indiana. The statue created by sculptor Paul Manship portrays Lincoln in his teenaged years while living in southern Indiana and is titled "Abraham Lincoln, the Hoosier Youth." The statue was commissioned to honor the fourteen formative years when Lincoln and his family lived in southern Indiana thus establishing Lincoln as a Hoosier. The four small reliefs on the base of the statue represent major qualities of character which President Abraham Lincoln possessed: Patriotism, Justice, Fortitude, and Charity, Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
