This hand-colored lithograph features a portrait of John C. Fremont, Republican presidential candidate in the election of 1856. The lithograph was done from a photograph taken of Fremont in 1856. He is shown seated, wearing a black coat and bow tie, and facing to the viewer's right. The title "John C. Fremont, Republican Candidate for Fifteenth President of the United States" is printed in the lower margin along with the publisher's information.
