Description
This hand-colored wood engraving features a view of Louisville, Kentucky, as it appeared in 1854. A river is set in the foreground, with several sailing vessels including a raft with a small tent, a ferry called the "Ben Franklin," a canoe, and a small sailboat. The docks with other ships are visible in the distance. The city of Louisville sits in the background of the print, with steeples of the taller buildings rising above those closer to the river. Clouds with purple and blue hues hover over the city in the sky. "View of the City of Louisville, Kentucky." is printed below the image, and "1854" is written in pencil next to it.
