Description

This tinted engraving, done from a photograph taken of him by John J. Mayall, features a three-quarter length portrait of William Ewart Gladstone during the time he was the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1852 to 1855. He is depicted in his early 40s wearing a dark coat, vest, and bow tie. He is shown seated with his right leg cross over his left knee and with his hands resting on his right leg. The title is printed in the bottom margin: "The Right Honourable William Ewart Gladstone, M.P., Chancellor of the Exchequer." Below the title the text reads, "The Drawing Room Portrait Gallery of Eminent Personages, Presented with the Illustrated News of the World."
