Description
This print features a line drawing of a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln along with the handwritten text of the short speech he gave from the back of the train as he was about to leave his home in Springfield, Illinois, to begin his term as president of the United States in Washington, D. C. The date, February 11, 1861, and place of the event are written at an angle behind Lincoln's head. The reason for the event is written above Lincoln's right shoulder. A short description of the listeners and of Lincoln on the train platform are written beside Lincoln's head on the viewer's right with the text of Lincoln's remarks following. The artist's name and publisher are printed in the lower corners of the margin. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
