Description

This broadside contains the words of 14 songs associated with times of war or specifically the Civil War. The songs are: The Sword of Bunker Hill; War Song; Grand Army Song; Ode to Mason and Slidell; Northern Marseillaise Hymn; Come and Join the Army!; New Star Spangled Banner; New Song for the New York 69th; Hurrah for the Brave Sons of Erin!; New Red, White and Blue; The Dying Soldier; The American Star; The Spirit of '62; and The Yankee Soldiers Forever. The tune to which the words are to be sung is listed below each song title. Illustrations of George Washington and President Abraham Lincoln are at the top just under the title and on either side of the first song. On the reverse are two patriotic eagles at the top of the page with a song printed under each one. Small illustrations of a United States flag, a shield, a harp, a gathering of people beside a flag with the words "Constitution & Laws" a log cabin, a flower-draped violin and harp, and a cannon leaning against a drum are placed vertically down the middle of the page.
