Description

This woodcut engraving was printed in commemoration of the death of President Abraham Lincoln on April 15, 1865. A large unusual-looking portrait of Abraham Lincoln is in the center of a wide black mourning border on which are 13 white stars. "Memento Mori," Latin for 'remember (that you have) to die,' is printed in bold above the portrait. Below the portrait are printed Lincoln's birth and death dates. Printed below the dates is a quotation, "Just of his Word--Observant of his Right." Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
