Description
This print features African American slaves being led by slave owners toward a ship's dock. The slaves, including a mother and two children, have chain cuffs on their wrists with chains that are attached to cuffs on their ankles. One slave owner stands among the slaves with a whip in his hand, while another owner rides a horse with a whip under his left arm. The dome of the Capitol Building stands in the distance with an American flag on top of it, and a ship is seen on the left coming into the harbor. "United States Slave Trade. 1830." is printed below the image. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
