Description
This color print features President Abraham Lincoln seated on a rock with his hands clasped together and his head down. Lincoln wears a dark jacket, vest, trousers, and shoes, as well as a white collared shirt and black bow tie. His black top hat sits on the ground in front of him. Lincoln sits on a hill that overlooks a Union company's camp site, and a Union soldier can be seen at the viewer's left in the print. An American flag waves among the tents. The landscape is brown and relatively dark - a leafless tree stands in the background with other rocks in the foreground. The artist's signature, "William A. Smith" is written in the bottom right corner of the image. "'Lincoln' by Wm. A. Smith" is printed below the image on the right, and "Sixth Edition - The Fine American Art Calendar Collection" is printed on the left. The image is the same as ID number 71.2009.081.1677 without the narrative text on the reverse. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
