Description
This aquatint etching features a three-quarter length portrait of a beardless Abraham Lincoln done from a photograph taken of him in 1846 in Springfield, Illinois.He is depicted facing partially toward the viewer's left and wearing frock coat, vest, collared shirt and bow tie. Lincoln's right arm rests on a table that sits beside him, while his left hand rests on his lap. A mirrored image of the American flag hangs above Lincoln's head, while an image of the Capitol Building in Washington, D. C. is positioned to the right of the flag. This print is one of a limited edition of three as "3/3" is handwritten beneath lower left corner of the image, "Mr. Lincoln" is written at the bottom center, and "McCullough 1977" is handwritten beneath the lower right corner of the image.
