Description

This colored lithograph features a half-length portrait of William L. Dayton seated on a red upholstered chair in front of dark green curtains with his hands clasped together on his lap. Dayton was the running mate of John C. Fremont in the 1856 presidential election. It was the first election in which the newly-formed Republican Party entered candidates.
