Description
This chromolithograph printed on canvas-backed paper features a head and shoulders portrait of President Abraham Lincoln wearing a black suit, vest, and bow tie and a white shirt. His body is facing the viewer's left and his head is turned toward the viewer's right. His hair is parted on the side. The background is a dark wash of greens and browns. The lithograph was intended to look like an oil portrait. Middleton advertised that it was a "chromolithograph in warranted oil colors." One of the most popular prints of Lincoln in the 19th century, this chromolithograph on canvas is based on a photograph of Lincoln taken by Anthony Berger on February 9, 1864 at Matthew Brady's Washington gallery.
