Description
This map was created to accompany the book by John Carroll Power titled "Life of Lincoln." The map shows the route of the train carrying President Lincoln's body from Washington, D.C. where he was assassinated to Springfield, Illinois, where he was buried. The heavy black line has many of the towns along the route labeled as well as the cities where funeral services were held. With the exception of a stop in Cincinnati, Ohio, the funeral train route followed in reverse the same route as Lincoln's inaugural train journey in 1861. The birthplace of Abraham Lincoln near Hodgenville, Kentucky, is also marked on the map. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
