Description
This print features a reprint of an editorial written by Mark Twain for the January 13, 1907, issue of the New York Times in which he is promoting the making of the Lincoln Birthplace Farm near Hodgenville, Kentucky, a national park. The remaining text discusses the rational for the idea as well as the plan of the Lincoln Farm Association for raising funds for the care and maintenance of the Lincoln Birthplace Farm. They were seeking donations between $0.25 and $25.00 from every man, woman, and child who would in return receive a "largey, handsomely engraved Certificate of Membership." The print also includes a vignetted head and shoulders portrait of Mark Twain, a head and shoulders illustration of President Abraham Lincoln, and an illustration of St. Gaudens' Lincoln a copy of which was suggested to be placed at the spring on the Lincoln Birthplace Farm. A list of the officers and members of the board of trustees of the Lincoln Farm Association is at the end of the article.
